Mystery Canyon

Yeah, these are from a while ago but it was an incredible time and I was going through my Southern Utah experience by getting my Cd's out and organizing photos and I just had to share these. I get all giddy when I look back at them.

This is me starting into the swim in the log jam from a flash flood

My friends doing the same. The smell left something to be desired.

After the swim!

The log jam was incredible. When a flash flood comes through a slot canyon it is like a dam just broke and so much water all at once goes through the canyon and moving anything in it's path. I have seen logs nearly 50 feet up in a canyon from a flash flood. Here we were swimming with debris and really had to help each other make it through. You can't move when you are surrounded by logs ,silt, branches leaves and who knows what else.

If you zoom in i am in this picture towards the bottom of one of the few rappels in this canyon. This was the largest rappel. Somewhere around 220 feet down. You hook yourself up at the top and you then walk across the cliff edge to align your self just right before the descent. That was probably more scary than the rappel itself.

Here is the end of the canyon where it drops in to the "Narrows" in Zion National park.

Yeah! Wet soccer shorts is not that attractive and I had a whole lot of people below me taking shots of it. That was fun to rappel down a waterfall though. :)
