On Friday night, My birthday night we made Carmel popcorn and had a movie night as a family.
Our little "Billy the Kid"
Joseph and I went to Boise yesterday and went all over town looking for pigs or goats. We finally ended up with a milk goat named Joey a pure bred la moncha goat. ( they are an earless goat) that is there breed. We got a kid goat too. He is a Toggenberg goat with little waddles on his neck that hang down. his grandparents are from switzerland. We named him "Billy the Kid" He is only a few days old now. We are working on him to nurse off this goat, so far he is not that good yet so we have to hold Joey while he nurses. We will see how that goes. Where we got the goats I asked the lady if i could try the goats milk. It was the first time and it was surprisingly good. I have had goat cheese and had to spit it out so I was pleased to know that goats milk is good. Sharper taste than cows milk, but still good and very nutritious. We are excited to have milk again from a source other than the store.
It just keeps snowing here. I am not trying to let that get to me. I am planting seedling plants that I hope to sell on Craigs list. Vegtable starts and some flowers. I have only planted a couple but tomarrow that will be my project to conquere. Joseph and I are trying to think of ways we can make money, save money and to become more self reliant.
So that is what has been happening in our lives. Hope you all are doing well. Love, Camille

My kitchen looks similar to yours! I read the "Square Foot Gardening Book" by Mel Bartholomew and am HOOKED. I highly recommend it. He is huge on starters, frugal gardening, effeciency gardening, etc. Having a garden is a huge step to becoming more self reliant. Right now I don't have to buy lettuce and onions - yah!
I also found that saving yogurt cups and punching a hole in the bottom work great for starter holders. Plus you throw in the dishwasher and reuse. My egg carton plants started growing out of the bottoms.
You'll have to keep us up to date on Craigslist project!
My sister just gave me that gardening book that Tonya mentioned in her post. Let me know if you want me to bring it up for you to read! Loved the picts and update!
Along with the yogurt container, I am going to use cans for pots for when I sell them. So every time I open a canned food I save the can so that I can put the plant in it when the time comes instead of buying the disposable pots that can get pricey.
Those little goats are pretty cute, especially the baby. I hope it continues to go smoothly as far as the nursing and milking go. Way to go in planting your own seeds. Good luck on all of your projects.
IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR BIRTHDAY WAS SO MUCH FUN! I'VE NEVER SEEN A EARLESS GOAT - IT'S SO WEIRD! THE BABY IS CUTE!! REMEMBER DON'S MINI GOATS? THEY WERE SO CUTE! ANYWAYS, YOU ARE SO CREATIVE! I LIKE ALL THE THINGS THAT YOU ARE DOING TO SAVE MONEY AND MAKE MONEY! GOOD JOB! YOU'RE FAMILY MUST BE REALLY PROUD OF YOU, YOU SEEM LIKE A SUPER MOM TO ME!
