Our December so far

Saint Nicholas came to our house on the 6th and gave a goodie and a toy.  Here in Germany they have St. Nicholas who is different to the american st. Nick and Santa clause come and bring gifts to the children.  This is from the original tradition of the actual St. Nicholas who surprised the children in his village with goodies and toys.  He was a man of service to bring good cheer to the children.....that is where our st. Nick comes from.  They still celebrate Santa Clause on Christmas (in some parts) and so will we.  We are Americans :)

 Bridger and his faces :)

So on the 8th of December we (Gideon Bridger and Mommy) headed down to Landstuhl regional medical center (about 2 hours away) and had Dr. appointments all morning for Gideon's pre-op for dental work.
we spent the afternoon eating swimming and shopping.....I was so tired!  We got a hotel in Rodenbach and got all ready for bed and then daddy showed up.  It was nice to have him there and to be a family during this ordeal.
The following morning we had to leave our motel at 5:45 and then we got to the hospital at 6:15.  There we were checked into a room and waited till 7:30.  We were going to wait till 9:30 but one of the patients dropped out so we got to go first.  So they wheeled Gideon back at 7:30 and he was such a big boy about it.  He couldn't eat or drink anything so he was hungry.  Back there they gave him some "happy gas" that was the flavor of bubble gum which he liked and that is how they were able to give him the anesthesia to put him under. (Nerve racking...Yes) and then he was finally done around noon.  He got caps on his teeth, fillings filled and teeth sealed.  He had A LOT of cavities.
The Dr's said that he would be crying for about 5 minutes when he wakes up and won't be all there.  Our brave boy woke up sleepy but content and started to talk to the nurse.  He was AMAZING!  He dealt with everything so well!  WE finally rolled out of the hospital around 4-ish and headed to Ramstein for dinner, a movie and ice cream as a family.  We went and saw Author Christmas which was pretty funny.
It was A LONG 2 DAYS!

 and after dental work

WE made bubble snakes the other night which were so FUN!  just cut the bottom of a pop bottle and put a towel on the bottom with a rubber band.  Dip it into dish soap and water and viola you have bubble snakes :)

We then made balls out of borax, water, corn starch and glue.  They work alright.  We had fun experimenting with them and finding out if you put too much of one of the ingredients it would end up runny, hard, or gakky.

1.        Label one cup 'Borax Solution' and the other cup 'Ball Mixture'.
2.        Pour 2 tablespoons warm water and 1/2 teaspoon borax powder into the cup labeled 'Borax Solution'. Stir the mixture to dissolve the borax. Add food coloring, if desired.
3.        Pour 1 tablespoon of glue into the cup labeled 'Ball Mixture'. Add 1/2 teaspoon of the borax solution you just made and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Do not stir. Allow the ingredients to interact on their own for 10-15 seconds and then stir them together to fully mix. Once the mixture becomes impossible to stir, take it out of the cup and start molding the ball with your hands.
4.        The ball will start out sticky and messy, but will solidify as you knead it.
5.        Once the ball is less sticky, go ahead and bounce it!
6.        You can store your plastic ball in a sealed ziploc bag when you are finished playing with it.
7.        Don't eat the materials used to make the ball or the ball itself. Wash your work area, utensils, and hands when you have completed this activity.
